Got A Lot Of Concrete On Your Property? When You Know To Level It And How This Is Done

Posted on

Concrete will stay in good condition for many years but over time can become damaged. One type of damage is concrete becoming unlevel. Keep reading for areas of your yard that may have unleveled concrete, as well as how this leveling is done by a professional.

Where Concrete Should Be Leveled

If you have a concrete driveway, it can become unlevel over time. Look at the concrete that is close to a garage as this is a common area for the concrete to sink. Other areas of the driveway can also have sunken areas. If they are not repaired, this can cause damage to other areas of the driveway, which can lead to expensive repairs.

If you have concrete sidewalk or path slabs, they can also have sunken concrete. If so, this can cause injury if someone walks on the sidewalk or path. Kids may ride their bikes on the path or sidewalk, or if you have a business your employees or customers could fall, which may result in a lawsuit for you. Even if you have small areas of sunken concrete someone can still trip and fall.

If you have concrete steps, they can also become sunken over time just like with slab concrete. If so, this is a hazard as someone could easily trip while walking up and down the steps. This is especially true if you have many steps to walk up and down.

If you have a concrete patio that is next to your home, this can also become sunken. For example, if you have a basement and have had issues with water, the water can cause the concrete to sink.

How to Level Concrete

You should always hire a professional to level concrete for you. If you do it yourself and do it wrong, this may cause enough damage to result in having to replace the concrete. One way a contractor can level concrete is with poly leveling. With this, they pump polyurethane foam under the concrete. The foam then expands and causes the sunken concrete to level. To do this, the contractor drills small holes to inject the foam. This is often used for basement or garage flooring.

Another way a contractor can level concrete is using mudjacking. With this, a slurry often made of mud and cement, is injected into the concrete until it has become level. Small holes are drilled to inject the slurry. This is often used to level steps, decks, sidewalks, and driveways.
